Debriefing Sessions

For parents: birth story listening

Critical incident stress can result in emotional and physical symptoms, such as headaches, high blood pressure, pain, difficulty sleeping, sexual dysfunction, and more.

Our team members are trained in providing one-on-one debriefing after a difficult event occurs. We will meet you and your partner at a location of your choosing to sit together and talk about your birth story. Sometimes it can help to shed some light on aspects of your care that you don’t understand.

If your needs exceed our scope of practice, we can refer you to an excellent Edmonton therapist who specializes in helping people heal from their birth-related trauma.

for professionals: individual & group debriefings

As birth professionals (midwives, physicians, doulas, nurses, respiratory therapists, ultrasound technicians, etc.), we often struggle to process our grief and trauma when births do not go as planned. Critical incident stress can impact future patient outcomes and can cause cognitive, physical, and behavioural symptoms in staff who experienced the incident.

Our team members are trained in CCISF-trained peer debrief facilitation for Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). We can provide individual debriefing or meet with a group of professionals in-hospital or online after a critical event occurs.
